Piano recording

This image shows a piano recording session using a matched pair of Pinnacle Fat Top ribbon microphones. Positioned in a spaced pair configuration, the ribbons were chosen for their smooth high-end response and natural warmth, ideal for capturing the nuanced dynamics of the instrument. Their figure-8 polar patterns helped reject ambient room noise while providing a balanced stereo image. This session allowed me to explore the detailed tonal characteristics ribbon mics offer, particularly when recording acoustic instruments in a controlled studio environment. Careful attention was paid to mic placement and gain staging to preserve the full dynamic range and tonal richness of the piano performance.
